History

MANIT was started in 1960 as Maulana Azad College of Technology, named after the first Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.MACT started functioning in 1960 at Govt S.V. Polytechnic with an intake of 120 students and seven faculty members. It was one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges.It was set up with seven faculty members and an initial intake of 120 students and acted at first from the campus of Swami Vivekanand Polytechnic. Swami Vivekanand Polytechnic's principal, S. R. Beedkar, was the first head of the institute, under the title "planning officer". The first principal, J. N. Mougdill, joined in 1962. At the same year the institute shifted to its current campus, which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India ,Jawaharlal Nehru

Campus

The institute is situated in the heart of Bhopal on a beautiful plateau with a verdant 650-acre campus. It has 9 hostels and new ones are in construction which has excellent fooding and lodging facilities along with 24 hours security. MANIT's Computer Centre, Canteen, Workshops, Athletic Ground, Energy Centre and the open air auditorium are the places where students enjoy healthy and competitive environment. They not only attain maturity and confidence but also shape themselves for the future needs of the world. The campus houses about 4,000 students and faculty members.

 

Academics

All course-works and examinations for all majors and subjects are conducted with English language as the only mode of instruction. Undergraduates courses are given in all engineering fields. Post graduate courses include Master of Business Administration (MBA),Master of Computer Applications(MCA), Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Ph.D in relevant fields, as well as other Master degrees. Admission to B.Tech. programmes is made through All India Engineering EntrancE Examination (AIEEE) to M.Tech. programmes is made through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

 

Admissions

For the undergraduate courses the admission is through the national level engineering entrance examination - AIEEE  since 2002)[. Prior to AIEEE, the admission was though state level PET (Pre-Engineering Test)
For the postgraduate courses the entry is through GATE for MTech, NIMCET for MCA or through an institute conducted entrance test.
For the courses Master of Business Administration course, admission is through CAT

NITB web club (commonly known as Club NITB) - The online community which keeps track of all the ongoing activities of college and further works on web and software development. It also provides students with short email id as @nitb.in
MANIT also hosts major national-level festivals and meets, including:

These bhawans are the glory this institute has had and of the renaissance it has witnessed. homes away from home are as simple as they can be, decorated with students activity of gathering. More importantly, though have spawned the cultures that make the campus an unforgettable experience. It's here that night outs, corridor cricket, basketball, tennis finding a expression. Each hostel has a state of Internet facility, meaning that the Internet permeates the space students live in. One cannot imagine hostel life without late night snacks at the Night canteens so almost all the hostels are equipped with late night canteens some working till 4am in the morning. All this, in aesthetic environs, the likes of which very few places in the world can boast.

Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC), is a public higher education institute located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the National Institutes of Technology, and like the rest of them, classified as an Institute of National Importance.
 

History





Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College was established on 26 June 1961 as a joint enterprise of the Central government and the government of Uttar Pradesh. The foundation stone was laid by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India and the institute was named after his father, lawyer and freedom fighter, Motilal NehrU. The founding principal of the college was Mr. Gopal Kishore Agrawal. The main building of college was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on April 18, 1965. Effective from June 26, 2002, the college became a Deemed University and renamed as Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology.





From its beginnings the institute offered Bachelor Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The institute was the first in the country to offer an undergraduate program in Computer Science and Engineering which was started in 1976. In 1982-83 undergraduate programmes in Electronics Engineering, and Production and Industrial Engineering, were started.
Post Graduate programmes were introduced in 1970-71 with Master Degree courses in all engineering departments. The institute now offer M.Tech. degree programs MCA & M.Sc Mathematics and Scientific Computing course, and registers candidates for Ph.D. degree.The institute has been recognised by the Government of India as a centre for the quality improvement programme in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. The institute has started a two year/four semesters postgraduate Degree in Management Studies from 1996. Th institute has added undergraduate programmes in Chemical Engineering and BioTechnology.


The college has been recognised by AICTE as a centre for the Quality Improvement Programme. In 1972, the college established an industrial estate with 68 sheds with the objective of encouraging entrepreneurs and creating additional revenue.
The college is a member of Indo-UK REC project in the area of design. Under this scheme, a Design Center has been established at a cost of about Rs. six Crore, which offers training and consultancy. It was given the status of Institute of National Importance (INI) bringing it at par with IITs, IISc and ISI on 15 August 2007.
In 2010, the institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee year of its establishment. P. Chakrabarti took over the charge as the director on 3 June 2011.

Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad (formerly known as M.N.R.E.C), the cornerstone of excellence has been devoted to churning out the best and ever competitive technical professionals year after year ever since its founding. Located in the traditional cradle of culture and knowledge, MNNIT stands as the perfect epitome of profundity and inquisitiveness. The MNNIT site spreads over 222 acres (0.9 km2) on the bank of the river Ganges.
MNNIT is a fully residential institution with seven hostels for boys and one for girls. One hostel is exclusively for postgraduate students. The capacity of the boys hostel is 1800 (1044 single seated rooms and 252 quadruple seated rooms) and that of the girls hostel is 145.

Other buildings on the campus include Computer Center, Central Library, CAD lab, Geo Lab, Concrete Lab, Heat Engine lab, Electrical Machines lab, Virtual Instrumentation lab, Mechanical Workshop, multipurpose hall, conference and seminar hall. The lecture halls and the tutorial classes of the institution are fully air conditioned.
It is among the few technical institutions in India to house two supercomputers, PARAM8000 and PARAM 10000.

Undergraduate

The institute offers 9 undergraduate B.Tech programs of four year duration in Bio Technology, Chemical Engineering\Technology, Civil Engineering, Ceramic Engineering,, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Production & Industrial Engineering. The institute was the first in the country to offer an undergraduate program in Computer Science and Engineering.
Admission is through the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE

Postgraduate

MNNIT offer 19 post-graduate programs of two year duration leading to M.Tech. degrees.The Computer Science department offers a Masters in Computer Applications(MCA).It has a Masters course in Computational Mathematics namely M.Sc in Mathematics and Scientific Computing and a B-school known as the School of Management Studies.Master of social work(MSW) is also running in the institute from 2009.

Placements

During academic session
2011–12, a student was offered INR1.34 crore (US$253,260) by Facebook, highest for any technical student in India during that session and second highest package in India overall, after INR1.7 crore (US$321,300) to an IIT Madras student during the 2010–11 session.There are more than 100 MNCs visiting the institute every year. Some major companies are: ABB, CISCO,Facebook, Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, Intel, Freescale, ZS Associates, Qualcomm, ARM, AMD, McAfee, Juniper Networks, Tejas Networks, Amdocs, Oracle Corporation, VMWare, Siemens, Ericsson, IBM, Xilinx, Synopsis etc.
